Frequently Asked Questions

I received a phone call or a letter in the mail about my claim. Is this real?

Yes, you have a legitimate claim. In today's world, it wise to question the validity of any unknown person contacting you about a claim before moving forward. As an indication of your claim’s validity, Gateway Asset Recover offers a No Upfront Fee Guarantee and will require no payments or bank account information from you. If needed to file your claim, we will also cover the upfront cost of retaining an attorney. Our company works on a success fee structure, so we are only paid if we are successful at recovering your assets.

What is my claim from?

We specialize in difficult to find claims, so it could be from one of thousands of government agencies we audit. There are many types of unclaimed assets from a myriad of different sources including but not limited to: Bank accounts, safe deposit bank contents, mutual funds, stocks, bonds, dividends, uncashed checks, unpaid wages, insurance policies, CD's, trust funds, utility deposits, escrow accounts, inheritance money, and others.

You can conduct a free search for unclaimed funds on the websites MissingMoney.com and Unclaimed.org. Both sites are endorsed by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA). You can likely find money owed to you or someone you know on these sites. Although these websites are great tools, it is unlikely the claim you were contacted about will be on these databases. Many claims are difficult to find, and our company invests a considerable amount of time and resources to locate the funds and their rightful owner. Please call us and one of our representatives would be more than happy to explain the nature of your claim.

Why wasn't I notified by agency holding my funds?

Government agencies holding unclaimed funds face a conflict of interest. The agencies stand to keep the assets if the claimants remain unaware of the claim’s existence. Often times, the same agency charged with notifying potential claimants is the same entity that will be allowed to keep the funds if they go unclaimed for a certain period of time. For this reason, agencies typically do not go to great lengths to find people to notify them of their money being held.

When does the statute of limitations expire to claim the funds?

The amount of time a claimant has to redeem the funds depends on where the money is being held and how much time has elapsed already. In many cases Gateway Asset Recovery will try to locate the claimant when the claim is still new. Doing so gives us the maximum amount of time to make the claim successful. In other cases, the claim may be just days from expiration. In either situation, we recommend pursuing the claim as soon as possible. In many instances the agencies holding the assets have many requirements that need to be fulfilled before it will release and return any funds. Unfortunately, agencies typically do not move quickly so it is best to start the process as soon as possible to avoid any redemption periods expiring.

Why do I need Gateway Asset Recovery’s help? Can I get the claim myself?

You do not need Gateway Asset Recovery to claim your funds. On of the most valuable services Gateway Asset Recovery provides is auditing government agencies and locating where the funds are being held in the first place. We share the location and nature of the unclaimed funds once you have returned a signed Client Engagement Letter. At that point, you are an official client represented by our firm and we will work to recover them on your behalf.

Even if you were to locate the funds yourself, there are still good reasons for having an experienced third party pursue the claim for you. The agencies holding the assets oftentimes have many requirements that must be followed for proving your entitlement to the claim and formatting your request. These agencies can prove difficult to work with in responding to and delaying the relinquishment of your money. After all, they stand to keep your fund if you do not follow their rules and meet their deadlines. For this reason, having the experienced Gateway Asset Recovery team help you navigate the complex process may be a wise decision. Gateway Asset Recovery also reserves the right to retain an attorney to successfully pursue your claim at no cost to you.

How much does it cost to collect to collect the claim?

There are no upfront costs to collect your claim pursuant to our No Upfront Fee Guarantee. Our contingency fees vary depending on the complexity of the case and the costs that are anticipated in pursuing the claim. As a client of Gateway Asset Recovery, you will never pay out of pocket for any attorneys fees, probate costs, filing fees, and court expenses involved in recovering your claim.

Some other companies charge exorbitant fees upfront just to share the details of the claim, and they leave you on your own to collect the funds. Gateway Asset Recovery will manage the entire process of getting your funds returned to you. Our company will collect nothing if the you do not successfully receive your unclaimed funds. Additionally, we will front all the costs to pursue your claim in a timely manner.

How long does it take to collect my funds?

There are a number of factors that determine collection time. The complexity of the claim, the laws governing when the money can be released, and how long the claim has been outstanding can all affect processing time. It can be as short as a few weeks or as long as one year or more. Your claims manager will continually update you with the status of your claim as information becomes available. Gateway Asset Recovery is committed to expediting your claim as soon as administratively possible. This practice makes sense for both parties; Gateway Asset Recovery will only be paid upon successful collection of your funds.

Is an attorney required?

It depends on a variety of factors, but if an attorney is required, Gateway Asset Recovery manages that entire process for its clients. In some jurisdictions, attorneys are required to file a formal motion to the court to pursue the claim. The attorney can also request a Judge's order to release the money. In other areas, the format and requirements to file a claim are easier and an attorney is not needed. Particularly complex claims also sometimes dictate the need for an attorney. In the event that an attorney is retained, Gateway Asset Recovery will advance all claim-related expenses as part of our No Upfront Fee Guarantee.

How do I begin the recovery of my claim with Gateway Asset Recovery?

If you have received a letter or an initial call from one of our claims managers, the first step is to complete and return our Client Engagement Letter. This letter contains the agreement that spells out the terms and conditions of becoming a Gateway Asset Recovery client in easy-to-understand terms. This letter also provides us with the authority to act on your behalf while working on the claim. After we receive all the required paperwork, we will contact you with any further needs and keep you up to date on the status of your claim.
